Construction

Boxy work fit. Cropped body length sitting on the belt line.
Front closure set high, with the final popper positioned well above the hem.
Sleeves cut shorter so they naturally pull back when the arms come forward.
Extra room through the back and shoulders to support forward movement.

  • Two lined billy pockets.
  • Two external chest pockets.
  • One internal chest pocket.
  • Reinforced stress points throughout.

Purpose

This is a work jacket, built around movement and durability.

The cropped length means it sits on the belt line, so you can squat, sit, or ride without it getting in the way. The closure is set high on purpose, when you bend, there’s no tension on the poppers, the jacket just opens up and moves instead of fighting you.

The sleeves are cut shorter so when you bring your arms forward, they pull back and clear the wrists. Keeps your hands free and stops the jacket getting involved in whatever you’re working on.

There’s extra room through the back because that’s a natural working posture, arms forward. It gives you movement where you actually need it.

Outer shell is a waxed herringbone with a dry finish. The anti-pill lining acts as a barrier, so you don’t get wax transferring onto your clothes underneath.

Notes

Halley Stevensons call this navy. It’s not navy. It’s black.

This one came out right. The fabric, the finish, the lining, it all works together.

Feels like a resolved piece. Definitely something to come back to.

I can see this as a small run, maybe 10 pieces. I’ll probably make one for myself in this exact setup.
